    I have hated this “joke”/trend since I first heard of it. It’s presented as a joke but it feels more like a backhanded compliment or passive aggressive hate/jealousy thing. Maybe, just maybe, these interracial couples are happy and compatible because they have more to focus on than the state of a damn wig??? Like maybe they share similar values or have a matching sense of humor? 🙄 Comments and jokes like this only further divide the black community and create anxiety and stress for those of us who may not have grown up with an emphasis towards black hair care. I’ve seen comments on this video where black women are openly explaining that they don’t have to worry about their wigs until they’re going to be around other black people. What really gets me is that it’s so common to drag a bw for the appearance of her hair and “act concerned” yet ain’t nobody trying to help someone “do better”. The dragging is always about how the bw should know better whether that means doing natural hairstyles or buying/styling their wigs better. There’s really enough challenges in this world already why talk shit about another person that you know nothing about…. I’ve been with my husband for almost 11 years. He is yt. He provides for me and our child. For the most part he minds his business when it comes to my hair. My hair has nothing to do with our relationship. I’ve worn my hair in all the ways since he’s known me. Braids,weaves,natural styles and wigs. I look good and I’m happy and nobody our way gives a shit about my hair. I’ve had to learn everything about hair by myself. I did not grow up with a support system or black community around me to teach me. And I’m so sick of how bw gatekeep each other about hair specifically. Like what’s the reason to dog someone’s hair. You’re not trying to teach them another way just pick apart their appearance and the reasons they do their hair a certain way. Whew this shit gets me so heated….

    While people of color were definitely underrepresented historically, there is more going on here than a choice between artistic and acrobatic skills . After all, much of art is subjective rather than objective. Objective acrobatics are easier to measure and put a number on. Calling people of color unartistic made it much easier to lower their scores. Making it about beauty made it easier to define beauty as northen European and so again limiting who could get the high scores. Not to mention the standard of what a female gymnast should look like was actually a particular build of young girl, not actual women. It didn't start out this way, but during the 70s and eighties, it was all underfed girls. And i havent even gotten started on the abuse by coaches yet.

    if gymnastics is a sport and they are athletes, then they should be more focused on athleticism. now if they're going to be on stage performing like ballerinas then okay I get why you would focus more on artistry but that's not the case.

    Black men have an easier time assimilating?🙄 You mean they’re more social with groups of people who don’t look like them? Yes I agree that there is an issue when it comes to casting minorities. But it’s not just on them. It’s on us too. At the end of the day, majority of black women perpetuate negative stereotypes. Black woken became more masculine over time. The modern women as a whole had become more masculine

    The issue goes deeper than just customer service, its a cultural thing. Jesse Jackson once said, "There is nothing more painful to me at this stage in my life than to walk down the street and hear footsteps... then turn around and see somebody white and feel relieved."

    Hot take: the Shawn Johnson vs Nastia Liukin artistry vs athleticism debated needed to happen in order for athletes like Douglass and Biles to have a chance against racism. Second hot take: FIG literally changed the artistic requirement for floor after Jade Carey won the floor gold. White girl with no dancing skills? CHANGE THE RULES 🙄

    Thank you for saying what you said about “lines”! I’m not black but I am curvy and grew up doing classical ballet. I never had ‘good lines’ or ‘elegance’ or ‘gracefulness’ and I pretty quickly learned it was that I couldn’t have those things because I was short and had boobs, not because of my talent. I was eventually bullied out of dance by my teachers and peers. All that with the benefit of white privilege, so I can only imagine how hard it is for black girls. I was 10 when I gabby won the Olympics and I was OBSESSED with her. I still pinpoint that as the first time I ever cared about sports lol

      OMG I took ballet and gymnastics and our ballet teacher told the gymnastics team member we would never amount to anything in dance because we were too short. Shame on her! I was in shock when I got to college and saw that women of all shapes, sizes and abilities were majoring and minoring in Ballet. It made me so mad because dance is something you can really continue to do as an adult whereas it's more difficult with gymnastics. Shame on these teachers for squashing children's life long potential to enjoy dance.

    Gymnastics is a very expensive sport, so it was dominated by white and Asian the past few decades because they had a financial advantage. That’s why the sport was tailored to white and Asian strengths. But now that the playing field is being leveled and more black families are making the income of upper-class white and Asian families, they can afford to put their kids in elite gymnastics training. And so the competition teams are becoming more black-dominated because they have the better muscle structure for tumbling, and will usually score better than typical white or Asian bodies. What’s funny, is if the emphasis on artistry is really because they think black people can’t dance… 👀🤣

    So basically artistic gymnastics has now plenty of black girls because it has become popular in countries that have plenty of black girls. LoL. The same coach who coached Comaneci coached also immediately the very first black gymnast when he defected in the US, and Okino and the others. It was a matter of time that more and more black girls would join the sport, lol. And Comaneci although she had some difficult elements for the era and the apparatuses used, she was still very artistic and never such acrobatically difficult as today's gymnasts.

      @@leykimayri You don't understand the meaning of "artistic" in artistic gymnastics. It means "the interaction of the athlete with an apparatus". People use the word "artistic" interchangeably with "dance" which is the word you should be using. You like the interpretation of dance part of gymnastics without caring about the interaction with the apparatus which is what the sport is. You can interpret dance anywhere-namely on a wooden floor--called Ballet. Gymnastics is about strength and balance.

    • @leykimayri
      @leykimayri 2 години тому

      @@mjamitche5245 Learn stone things about the HISTORY of the sport before wasting people’s time reading your stυρidities. Artistic in MAG means military origin, to separate the discipline from other forms of gymnastics during the 19th century. While in WAG it means elegance because women’s artistic gymnastics has origins in BALLET dancing. Artistic has nothing to do with interaction and tumblings:acrobatics and etc nοnsense you write. Hence why dance elements are basically HALF part of what artistic gymnastics is all about on floor and beam while there are also present on vault and bars since it’s demanded to have pointy feet, elongated legs and arms, etc, otherwise you get deductions each and every time.

    Great analysis, hope to see more of these in depth video essays from you in other areas - good stuff. Agree, there is more diversity in women’s gymnastics. What I find more interesting is the movement towards more athletic moves and routines in the women’s division. This will be more acceptable as we see more women capable of these routines. Biles of course is a big part of that, showing what is possible. We see this type of change in other sports which reframe the view of what is possible in women’s sports. Gymnastics definitely went through that transition from dominantly an artistic and subjective form to today which is moving towards a more objective athletic one. I welcome the move but do agree there are areas in sports where artistic quality can be an important component, but do see the difficult task when trying to quantify artistry.
